FOR THE WINE LOVERS

This Winter, we’re obsessed with this bold lip trend, so much so that we’ve found three different ways to wear it! It looks gorgeous on all skin tones, even the palest of the pale, which is why we asked our fair friend Lexie to model it for us. Here’s everything you need to know about rocking a deep berry wine lip:

OPTION 1: A PLUMPING GLOSSThis one is beautiful in the daytime, or for those of you with chapped lips, thinner lips or lip lines, because it forgives all sins instead of making them look worse!

OPTION 2: A LIQUID LACQUERThis option (in Seduction) is pretty on everyone! It has the intensity of a lipstick but the shiny-ness of a gloss. It feels ultra-luxurious to wear.

OPTION 3: A MATTE STAINThis one (in Wicked) is for the extremists who love making a statement and turning heads! If you have excessive lip lines or thinner lips, it might not be the right choice, otherwise you’ll love it.

Pair it with a light eye shadow (like  a gold metallic) to complement but not compete!

MAKE IT BRIGHTER!

A lot of us use eye shadow primers to make the shadow last longer or keep it from creasing. But did you know there’s another kind of primer out there that makes the shadow show up more? Do you remember my tutorial on white liner to make the shadow pop? This is the same premise but a much thinner and more realistic solution. Here’s how to rock it to make your shadows brighter than they would be on bare skin or lids with foundation or powder:

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. Squeeze a 1/2 of a pea-sized amount onto your ring finger. Gently spread it evenly across your entire lid and crease. With the leftover on your finger, you can also give it a quick sweep across the bottom lashline if you’re planning on applying the shadow there like Neelo is demonstrating above. Wait 10 seconds.
  2. NOW apply the eye shadow over the same areas with your favorite shadow brush.
  3. Sweep it across the bottom lashline too.
  4. Finish with a quick highlight to brighten the inner corners and a coat of mascara.

HOLIDAY SPARKLE

I know that most of you will step it up at holiday parties this year by rocking a red lip! But today I’m tempting you to take it a step further and pair it with a simple sparkle eye. Nothing Vegas Showgirl or anything distracting. Just one glitter liquid liner and four ways to rock it. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

INNER TWINKLE

  1. Look up and start in the inner corner. Trace the liquid liner about 1/3 of the distance across the lower lash line. You can decide how thick or thin you want it. I always end up making it a tad too thick but always notice right away and in time to swipe away the unwanted width with a q-tip (or my finger) before it dries.
  2. Follow with a couple coats of mascara.

TBDGlitter2GoldLine

THE GOLD LINE

  1. One of my very special clients did this on her own for her baby shower this year and everyone loved it! Simply start at the inner corner of your upper lashline and trace the liner across to the outer corner.
  2. Go back over it to add another coat of glitter. If that’s enough for you, stop there, or you can do a third coat on top to add even more glitter, which is what I did on Neelo here.
  3. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

TBDGlitter3LidSparkle

LID SPARKLE

  1. Here you are just adding lines above the gold line that you drew in The Gold Line until you’ve filled in the entire lid. Stop before the crease so it doesn’t crease.
  2. Go back over the lid a couple more times until you’ve reached the amount of desired glitter.
  3. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

TBDGlitter4Ombre2

OMBRE

  1. This time, do the steps from The Gold Line, but instead of filling in the entire lid like we did in Lid Sparkle, this time only draw the Gold Line.
  2. Before it dries, aka immediately, place your finger over the line and gently smear the glitter upward.
  3. Pick your finger up and press it repeatedly all over your lid.
  4. With the remaining few specks of glitter left on your finger, press it along the crease.
  5. Go back and draw a line at the upper lash line again to make sure that’s the most intense area.

CHAPPED LIP S.O.S.

Chapped lips plague a lot of us and are no fun. But hopefully this routine a couple of times a week will help. Here’s how!

TBDWinterLipFixTOOLS

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Lip Scrub — I used Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lips Scrub on Magali above. I also really like Sara Happ The Lip Scrub in Clementine.
  • An Electronic Lip Scrubber — I used Bliss Fabulips Kit that is specifically made for scrubbing chapped lips (and comes with the Scrub!). You can also use an electronic toothbrush!
  • A Lip Brush — I actually used my favorite Flat-Headed Eye Shader Brush that I use often to apply lipstick because it covers more surface area but the edges are sharp enough for detailing.
  • Your Favorite Lip Mask — your lips haven’t felt heaven until they’ve felt 5 minutes with the Kaplan MD Lip 20 Mask. It really heals, plumps and makes your skin stronger.
  • Your Favorite Tinted Lip Balm — if you’re looking for that perfect Snow White just-bitten, ultra-hydrating lip balm, treat yourself to Tata Harper’s Be Adored Tinted Lip Treatment!
  • A Wet Washcloth

STEPS:

  1. Dip your finger in the scrub and scoop out a nickel size.
  2. Rub the scrub all over the lip area.
  3. Turn on the electronic lip scrubber and place it on either your bottom or top lip to start, then slowly move it across and all over the lip area and let it buff away and do all of the work for you. Try to do it for 60-120 seconds. Watch the telie or listen to T-Swizzle’s new album while you’re waiting!
  4. Wipe off all of the scrub with the wet wash cloth. You should notice that most of the chapped areas are now smooth.
  5. Dip the brush into lip mask and scoop out a nickel size.
  6. Sweep the brush all over the lip area to coat it.
  7. Wait a few minutes for it to really penetrate and hydrate.
  8. Wipe it off with the backside of the wet washcloth.
  9. Finish with a quick sweep of the tinted lip balm.

Do this a couple times a week or however often needed to keep gorgeous, kissable lips this Winter!
