EYE CREAM SECRET

post + photos by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

If you have puffy bags under your eyes, where you applied your eye cream might be the culprit! Here’s the deal… eye cream warms up with your body temperature and travels as it seeps into your skin. So if you apply it directly on top of your crow’s feet along your lashlines, it will travel into your eyes and irritate them, causing them to swell and give you extra unwanted baggage.

The good news is, because eye cream travels, just apply it 1/2 inch or so above your upper lashline and below your lower lashline, then while you’re sleeping, it will travel on its own and stop right around your crow’s feet, where you wanted it in the first place! Be sure to use your ring finger to apply it (it’s your weakest finger so you won’t pull too hard) and after making the dots, gently pat them in.

I PLEDGE…

Every single Winter I swear that I’m not going to let my face get dry, irritated and chapped. But life gets in the way, I forget to stay on top of it and before I know it, the corners of my lips are cracked and my chin is so dry and irritated that it even has little rash-like bumps on it! Then I spend the next month trying to turn it around, but the heavy emollient creams strong enough to tackle the chapped skin only inflame and irritate the rash, causing dermatitis and break outs, landing me in my dermatologist’s office, hoping my insurance will cover it!!  It’s enough to drive a woman nuts. So this year, I am determined to stay on the offense and keep my skin balanced, moisturized and happy. Here is my pledge:

BEAUTY SLEEP

post designed by lauren conrad

There’s a reason that they call it ‘beauty sleep’.  Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night can actually improve your appearance.  While you’re sleeping your body releases human growth hormones. This helps your body create collagen which gives your skin strength and elasticity.  (Fun Fact “kola” means glue in Greek and Collagen actually means “glue producer”).  Also, while you are dreaming away, your skin cells are regenerating and all the muscles in your face that create wrinkles begin to relax.  While the recommended hours of sleep you should be getting each night is between 7 and 9, this just simply isn’t a reality for some you busy ladies. So just think of this as a reason to catch up on weekends.  According to FITNESS Magazine, when you have been asleep for 5 hours “Your skin’s temperature reaches its lowest point and your muscles relax, giving skin its deepest recovery.” So hit the snooze button ladies and dream a little longer.
