TACKLE ACNE & AGING SIMULTANEOUSLY

It’s easy to think you can only tackle acne OR aging, but not both at the same time. So if  we have acne, we just focus on that because it’s an immediate issue, and we don’t think we have the luxury to worry about the future, or we think an anti-wrinkle cream will break us out. Well here’s a proposed nighttime routine to battle both simultaneously the way that I do! Every night, start with your favorite anti-acne product, but only apply it thinly in the areas that you need it. Then quickly switch to your favorite anti-aging cream and apply it over the areas that you don’t worry about now but will creep up on you later! Here’s how:

TBD FAVORITES:

  • Look for an anti-acne medication that has either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide combined with soothing formulas that won’t cause a third problem: irritation (try this one) or try this one that uses a more natural approach. But if you have found one that works for you, stick with it!
  • Two of our favorite anti-aging creams are this one for its powerful vitamin C and triple oxygen and this one for its combination of peptides, hyalauronic acid and anti-oxidants. Or try this one if you’re on a budget!

ANTI-ACNE STEPS:

  1. Pump the size of a half-pea onto the palm of your hand.
  2. Slap your hands back and forth like you’re dusting them off to really thin it out across your fingers.
  3. Quickly swipe your fingers against your cheeks like you’re wiping off something that landed on them.
  4. Repeat on your forehead (if that’s an acne-prone area for you).
  5. Swipe them along the top and sides of your nose.
  6. Finally swipe them across your chin.

ANTI-AGING STEPS:

  1. Pump a couple times onto your fingertips as demonstrated above.
  2. Wipe your fingers back and forth against each other to spread it evenly.
  3. Dab it under your eyes (not too close so it doesn’t creep in while you’re sleeping and irritate them, causing puffiness) as well as on the upper lids themselves.
  4. Dab it along your lip lines and nasal labial lines.
  5. Finish by patting the rest over your neck and chest.

If this is too much for you (you know who you are, just admit it!), there are anti-acne anti-aging systems that tackle both in one solution! This one is my personal favorite and this one is popular too! Just remember, if you spend your twenties and thirties only concerned about clear skin, you’re missing years that you could have had under your belt tackling future wrinkles that one day appeared out of nowhere when you look in the rear-view mirror  at a stop light. It’s the one thing I wish I could tell my younger self regarding skincare… And don’t forget sunscreen!!

 

MOISTURE BARRIER

Every winter we get tons of requests asking how to battle dry skin. With our heaters blasting and the drier climate, our faces really takes a beating. We pile on the night cream, wake up in the middle of the night only to touch our skin and gasp because all of the moisturizer is gone! We wonder where it went… was half absorbed and the other half evaporated from the heater?? Don’t give up just yet. There is a way to “seal” your night cream and create a moisture barrier so it lasts all night; you just need to lock it in with a face balm. I have acne-prone skin so was a little hesitant to try face balms a few years ago but was so desperate to find something for the dry patches each winter that I took the plunge when a client actually recommended them to me… and was happily surprised when I didn’t break out and the dry patch on my chin healed. Here’s how:

FAVES:

  1. Egyptian Magic
  2. Liz Earle Superbalm
  3. Weleda Everon Face Balm
  4. Rodial Stem Cell Super-Food Glam Balm

STEPS:

  1. Apply your night cream all over your face and neck as you usually do. Rub it all the way in and don’t forget your neck, please!
  2. Rub a quarter-sized amount of face balm in between your fingers to warm it up.
  3. Gently pat the balm on top to create a moisture barrier and seal in your night cream.
  4. Touch your face when you wake up and notice it’s still moisturized and happy!

You can go there and find amazing things whether you’re completely clueless or an industry veteran. She is constantly researching and picking out new favorites! KITCHEN BEAUTICIAN

I never really appreciated toner for some reason. I thought it was something companies made to get us to buy more but wasn’t really necessary. And I still feel that way about some of them, but apple cider vinegar does something in a way that lotions and face washes don’t. It tightens pores, helps clear up acne and fights future breakouts. It’s anti-bacterial and an antiseptic and helps to re-balance your skin’s pH level after it’s been disrupted from washing it. I have yet to find a toner out there that can duplicate its properties. Here’s all you need to know:

TOOLS:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar– Look for an organic version (with Mother in it if you can as it’s full of enzymes).
  • Distilled/Filtered Water
  • Container — preferably a glass bottle
  • Chopstick or Spoon
  • Cotton Ball/Pad/Square

STEPS:

**Optional: If you are the very thorough type, you can first sterilize the glass bottle by boiling it in water.

  1. Fill half of the bottle with water. Again, if you’re the thorough type, you can certainly measure both the water and the apple cider vinegar. I prefer to eye it! Then shake the bottle of vinegar and pour it into the remaining half of the bottle.
  2. Give it a good stir.
  3. Place a cotton pad on top of the opening and turn it upside down to load it up.
  4. After you wash your face, sweep the cotton pad all over it (chest and back too if needed).

**If you have sensitive skin, instead of equal parts, try one part vinegar to 6 parts water to dilute it more. You can keep it that strength or eventually work up to 1:1. Some people can handle the vinegar undiluted, straight from the bottle!
