RED LIPSTICK EVOLVED

Lipstick has come a long way since its moniker was coined in 1880! Not that I don’t still love lipstick and plan on using it until the day I die… but in the last few years, new textures and finishes have emerged that have earned their keep along side of lipstick in our makeup drawers. Some last all day and never end up on your teeth, others are velvety and some are ingeniously matte and shiny at the same time! To really study them, I picked one color (a classic red) and one model (my sweet friend Sophia) to see how they compare and contrast. None look like a lipstick, even though all are just as pigmented and intense.  (more…)

We continue our Blush & Bronzing Series with today’s lesson in powder blush. This option:

  1. works well with all skin types,
  2. is the best option for those of us with oily skin,
  3. opens up the world of shimmer if you want an extra glow,
  4. lasts longer than the various blush types,
  5. and layers beautifully on top of mineral powder foundation.

Powder blush has been around since the onset of makeup and will never go away because it adds that perfect flush of color for an instant healthy-looking glow. (more…)

BEST RED LIP SHADES FOR YOUR SKIN TONE

We’ve gotten so many requests for picking the right red lipstick that we had to try and help! All you need to do is find which skin tone you are closest to {find your row above}, then decide, in your opinion, which you like better: the orange-based red {warm red} in the left column or the blue/pink-based red {cool red} in the right column. I can’t sit here and tell you which one you should pick or give you a universal law {even though many magazines and beauty counter sales people might constrict you like that}, because honestly everyone can wear both, you just have to decide your mood that day: do you want everything to be in harmony, or do you want to make a statement? Here’s the breakdown: (more…)
