THE MOST HARMONIOUS BLUSH SHADE FOR YOUR SKIN TONE

photos by getty, wire + go runway, graphic design by eunice chun, post by amy nadine

It’s a free world and I love that we can all wear any blush shade we are in the mood to wear each day! But certain shades are more harmonious on some skin tones than on others. Why does it matter? Because when you find your perfect blush shade, no matter what eye shadow or lip color you choose, the blush becomes secondary and more of a natural flush, like you’re blushing. So here’s a loose guideline in finding your blush bestie! **We know that many of us fall in between the 6 skin tone shades listed above, but as much as it kills us, we just can’t include all 5,682 different variations in skin tones…  But please don’t fret, just find the ones that you fall in between and decide if you have more of the cooler or warmer undertone version of the two tones. For a refresher course in undertones, revisit my lesson from last year by clicking here. (more…)

EARTH DAY: BEAUTY FOR A CAUSE

post by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

We here at TBD are big supporters of Earth Day on April 22nd and try to do as much as we can to leave this planet as beautiful as we found it. This year we wanted to do something special for our friends around the world who don’t have access to clean water, because every 20 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease. So we collaborated with Tarte, one of our favorite green + eco-friendly cosmetic lines, to create a limited edition collection of our favorite four products and for every kit sold, Tarte will donate 20% of the proceeds to winetowater.org. The organization helps bring clean water to 9 countries that desperately need it through building wells, filters and irrigation systems. We couldn’t be more thrilled! Each Down to Earth Kit comes in an eco-chic quilted bag and includes:

  • a full size LipSurgence™ lip tint in enchanted (the prettiest rose shade that Amy Nadine even wore on her wedding day!)
  • a gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara (will absolutely become your favorite mascara)
  • an Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in blissful (a warm peach that gives every skin tone a glowing flush)
  • multiplEYE™ lash-enhancing liquid liner (formulated with a lash-growing serum so every time you trace it along your lash line, you’re helping grow lashes!)

We can’t think of much better than treating your face to synthetic-free gorgeousness while donating to a great charity! Click here to grab your limited-edition Down To Earth Kit while supplies last and have a wonderful Earth Day!

Retails for $49.00 (a $90 value if 4 items purchased separately). 20% of proceeds donated to winetowater.org.

**Tarte has added a contest to give a kit to one lucky reader! Click here by April 15, 2012 at 11:59pm EST and good luck! CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED, and the lucky winner is…  Jackie S. from Essex Junction, VT! Congrats Jackie!

MUSIC FESTIVAL SPOTLIGHT: PERFECT POUT

photos: wireimage.com, gorunway.com, lilylock.tumblr.com/post + design: amy nadine

Music festival season is here and brings with it your alter ego – a bohemian carefree version of yourself that has been counting down the days to come out and let go! Giving you the perfect opportunity to try things a little differently with your makeup + hair. In the upcoming weeks we’ll break it down as simply as possible, starting today with your lips. And I believe there is only one route to take and it’s coral! Red is too elegant or retro, vamp is too winter and pink is a little too girlie… making coral the perfect choice. It’s a warm + earthy shade that pairs perfectly with boho tops and cutoffs. And I’m not talking about a soft coral that we wear so beautifully in our every day lives! I’m talking about a bright coral that’s strong enough to anchor your alter ego’s ethereal hippie attire. So find your shade + finish below and you’re all set with one less thing to think about when packing!
CORAL RED WITH A GLOSSY FINISH: Dior Addict Extreme in Riviera with a golden tan is heaven.
CORAL POPPY TINTED LIP BALM: Tarte LipSurgence in Spirited is perfect if you hate feeling like you’re wearing more than chapstick, and the color really pops on fair skin (I used it in the shot above on Krysten Ritter for her premiere of Life Happens! on Monday and was so happy with how it photographed on the red carpet).
TRUE CORAL IN A MATTE FINISH: Bite High Pigment Matte Pencil in Zinfandel is electric and makes such a gorgeous statement on all skin tones.
SHIMMER CORAL IN A SATIN FINISH: Covergirl Blast Flipstick in Stunner has a bright orange-coral on one side and an orangey-gold shimmer on the other side, making it the perfect fiery choice for medium to dark skin tones.
Coming soon: Festival eyes… Look out!

A METALLIC EYE

YouTube Preview Image

We love simple + quick ways to turn up the wow factor, and switching to a metallic shadow does just that in an instant. In our latest exclusive video tutorial we’ll show you just how easy it is to recreate this very chic look from many-a-runway.

1. After evening out your skin tone with foundation, fill in your brows with light quick strokes mimicking individual hairs. True used Dior Brow Styler in Universal Brown, our favorite because of its super-fine point.

2. With your finger, swirl a longwear shimmer shadow on the center of your lid, where you really want the pop. True used Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Intense Eye Shadow in Pulp Fiction.

3. Dab an eyeshadow brush in a metallic shadow and tap off any excess on the back of your hand. True used a discontinued favorite palette of mine from Stila (sorry!!) but try Stila Jewel Eye Shadow Trio as it’s almost identical and actually better refined. Sweep the color on the remaining areas of your lid, crease + bottom lashline.

4. With a light shimmer shadow, fill in the inner corner, above the crease + along the brow bone.

5. Rim the upper and bottom lashlines with a black longwear liner. True used NARS Soft Touch Pencil in Aigle Noir.

6. Coat the lashes with a volumizing mascara (Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara).

7. Swirl a peachy gold shimmer blush on the apples of your cheeks. True used my favorite Kabuki Blush Brush, the NARS Yachiyo (once you try it, you’ll never go back to your old blush brush) and  NARS Blush in Luster, one of my mainstays on the red carpet for years now.

8. Finish with a metallic peach lipstick. True used Dolce & Gabbana Shine Lipstick in #53 Delicate.
