AGAINST THE GRAIN

TBDFeatheredBrow1

One of my favorite models, Camille Rowe, taught me this a few years ago when I was happily in the mind frame that brows had to be smoothed over and perfectly groomed. She borrowed my spoolie brush and directed the beginning hairs inward, away from the others. Instantly I saw how sexy and youthful it made everything and my perspective on brows was changed for life. Here’s how to get the look:

STEPS:

  1. Place the wand/spoolie brush at the base of the brow. Instead of brushing them straight up, “pull” and direct them inward towards the opposite brow. Repeat to make sure there is no hair left behind! Once you have brushed the beginning hairs inward, you can brush the rest of the “base” hairs straight up.
  2. Now that the beginning hairs are directed toward the opposite brow and the rest of the base hairs are directed straight up, brush the tail hairs outward in the direction of their natural growth.

We know that brow styles are a personal preference so if you’re not into this natural look, that’s ok! Just please be respectful to our readers who like it in our comments below! Thanks!

PS for everyone who is asking what the eye shadow is, it’s this one in Dark Pearl!

STREET MODEL EYES

TUTORIAL & PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

I’ve always loved the way models do their makeup on their days off. OK, on most of those days they don’t wear any makeup to give their skin a break, but when they’re out and about on the streets of New York and Paris, this seems to be their “I don’t care, I don’t try” makeup look. And it’s effortlessly amazing! Here’s how to recreate the look I did on our model Alyssa above:

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Kohl Pencil: I’d go longwear so once it sets, it stays. I used Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Colour Pencil in Tarred because it’s 100% vegan and cruelty-free and highly pigmented.
  • Cotton Swab: I used a classic Q-tips cotton swab but feel free to use whichever you have on hand.
  • Your Favorite Mascara: I used Mally Volumizing Mascara and can’t begin to tell you how obsessed I am with it. It gives the biggest, longest lashes I’ve seen in a long time.

STEPS:

  1. Line the Upper Lid starting at your inside corner all the way to the outside corner.
  2. With your opposite hand, reach around over your head and gently lift the eyelid upwards. With your writing hand, tightline the upper inner rim by merely tracing the pencil back and forth along it.
  3. With your opposite hand again, gently pull your lower lid downwards with one finger. While still holding it down, rim your lower inner waterline with the pencil in your writing hand.
  4. Grab the cotton swab and gently smear the upper liner back and forth.
  5. With the same cotton swab, gently trace it along the lower lash line to smear that as well.
  6. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

Pair it with a nude cheek and a nude lip and undone hair and you’re good to go!

ROSIE ROMANTIC

We love a pretty pink pop with no fuss! This “Rosie Romantic” tutorial shows you how to get this simple spring-y look, which is gorgeous for both day and night.

• Tools: foundation, rosy cream blush, rosy lip balm, brown eye liner pencil, black mascara, foundation brush or sponge, and small flat concealer brush (or you can use your fingers)

• Apply an even layer of foundation to your skin.

• Apply a rosy cream blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend with your finger tips.

• Apply a rosy lip balm to your lips.

• Line your lash line with a brown pencil and blend with your finger.

• Coat your top and bottom lashes with black mascara.
