NEUTRALIZE TO MAKE AN IMPACT

post + photography by: amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

Lips come in many shades with some darker than others, regardless of your skin tone. My clients with darker skin tones tend to have darker lips or a dark line on the perimeter of the lip area. My client Krysten Ritter has very fair skin and raspberry red lips naturally. I also have fair skin but my lips barely have any pigment to them at all. So it’s the luck of the draw, really. But if your lips are naturally pigmented, you’ve probably struggled with lipsticks looking different on you than they do in the tube. If that’s the case, then this tutorial is for you! SO FANCY

photo: angela+ithyle/thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess

For instant sophistication, red lipstick is a girl’s best friend.  We love
it with everything from jeans to dresses… there is nothing more
glamorous. Here, we break down the steps to make it last all night.

TOOLS:

-toothbrush or disposable mascara wand

-lip balm

-nude lip liner

-red lipstick

-eye shadow blending brush

-translucent loose powder

-lip brush

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Using a toothbrush or disposable mascara wand and lip balm,
remove any dead skin by gently scrubbing in circular motions.

2) Outline the perimeter with a nude liner to prevent feathering.

3) Apply red lipstick directly from the tube.

4) Using an eyeshadow blending brush and translucent loose powder, powder
your lips to really set the color.

5) Apply a second coat with a lip brush to smooth edges and perfect lines.
