SKIN PERFECTION

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

As amazing as Summer is, it can be pretty damaging to our skin, even if you wear SPF 50, sit under an umbrella with sunglasses and a hat on! Freckles multiply (welcome to my life!), sun spots get darker, melasma spreads and an accidental afternoon with no sun protection leaves you with a sunburn followed by peeling. So today I’m asking you to make a plan to undo it all! There are short term solutions (perfect if you have a date tonight!) that surfacely shed the dead skin and plump, making your skin gorgeous and renewed, and there are long term solutions that actually lighten and brighten the dark spots. These are my tippy-top three favorites:  (more…)

HOW TO EXFOLIATE FOR SKIN RENEWAL

Tutorial + Photography by Amy Nadine, Graphic Design by Eunice Chun

I can’t believe I went thirty years without knowing the right way to exfoliate my face! Sure, my old method wasn’t a total waste, but a huge difference than doing it right. For some of us, melasma and hyperpigmentation are a part of life and every now and then we have an important occasion that calls for full coverage. But that doesn’t mean we have to go out and buy a full coverage foundation (it’s not good to wear that much coverage on a daily basis anyway). Just make your own with concealer and face lotion! I personally think it gives better coverage than the “full coverage” foundations that are out there. Again, please don’t do this every day, as I don’t know how sensitive your skin is to breakouts, even though this shouldn’t cause a breakout as concealers are formulated to also cover blemishes. So just save it for an emergency situation where you find out you’re going to be on television or have your picture taken for something important! Here’s how: (more…)

HAIR TALK: OBLONG FACE SHAPE

post: Kristin Ess graphic design: Eunice Chun

Could super-duper-model Joan Smalls be any more gorgeous!? She’s a prime example of someone with an oblong face shape. When it comes to this shape, the goal is to wear it proud if you’re happy with it or to widen the face to make it appear less long. If a client of mine comes in and has an oblong face shape, I usually suggest a long bang or layers that hit just below the eyes when the hair is dry– that will draw out the width of your face. I also explain that if you don’t have natural waves, the hair will need to be styled regularly to acheive the widening effect. Super straight hair on an oblong face will make it appear even longer. You want to make sure you are letting the cheekbones be clear and visible with an oblong shape. Here are some great ideas for all of you beautiful oblong girls! (more…)
