HALLOWEEN BEAUTY HELP

WHY NOT?

You see spider lashes on the runways every season and probably think to yourself “that’s so fashion-y but not something I’d want to do every day”. Agreed! But (you totally saw this one coming)… if the outfit is right, the time is night and the mood is sassy, why not let your lashes have a little downtown chic moment once in a blue moon? It’s fun and different; and let’s not forget makeup is a form of expression! Here’s how:

STEPS:

  1. Apply a generous coat of mascara on your top + bottom lashes.
  2. Dip your eyeshadow brush into loose powder and carefully powder your lashes. You can close your eyes if you’re worried about it getting inside but I usually give the brush a tap against the counter to get rid of any extra powder.
  3. Paint over each lash with the lacquer. If you don’t have one, you can use a second coat of mascara but will give up a little of the dramatic payoff that a lacquer will give. Try this technique if you’re using mascara for this step.
  4. To really exaggerate it, use tweezers to squeeze a few lashes together into star points.

PERM PAPER CURLS FOR DAMAGED ENDS

In the hair coloring world, lighter ends seems to be here to stay. It looks beautiful and quite natural, but there is a little bit of a down side– ends that have been processed repeatedly can start feeling a bit compromised. Putting a hot curling iron on dry, damaged ends can be really brutal if you’re not careful. Here’s a little trick I use on my own hair as well as my clients when I feel like the hair just needs a little more protection than product can provide:

  • Get perm papers from your local professional beauty supply store.
  • Wrap a perm paper around the dry ends of your hair (long-ways).
  • Put the curling iron over the perm paper and roll up as usual.
  • Take the iron out once the hair is ready and then remove the paper.

Curls will be just as bouncy as ever! Putting that piece of perm paper in there keeps the metal from coming in direct contact with split/brittle ends and minimizes damage.

OH HEY BIG EYES!

For something so simple, a pop of color along the underlid makes quite an impact. For demonstration purposes I’m showing the how to on my fellow blogger Taye Hansberry’s normal-sized eyes (check out her fashion blog here!), but this is especially great for those of us with monolids or smaller eyes.
