SHEET MASKS 101

Originating in Korea and used by beauty babes globally, the sheet mask is an individually wrapped luxury facial that’s super convenient and for the most part, majorly budget friendly. In 15 minutes you can have quick results targeting skin issues like tone, hydration, firmness and clarity. What makes these bad boys so special is the serum soaked paper contours to your face locking in the treatment ensuring maximum effectiveness. Sure, you may take one look in the mirror and confuse yourself for a D-list actress in a low-budge horror flick, but all the weirdness is totally worth the skin you’ll have after!

You can use these portable packets of goodness for so many things…

TO BRIGHTEN: You know when your skin is looking (and feeling) dull and tired? Sheet masks with skin brightening properties are a quick fix to this all too often complexion woe. Look for masks that contain vitamin C, usually in the form of citrus extracts. With use over time they can help with hyper pigmentation and dark spots giving you that gorgeous even tone we all are pining for. So far our faves are Decleor Intense Brightening Sheet MaskTheFaceShop Vitamin C Mask + Amore Pacific Brightening Masque.

TO FIRM: It’s never too early to start fighting the good fight against mother nature! Adding collagen infused products into your skincare regime is a great way to do just that. Collagen is vital for skin elasticity and constant renewal of skin cells…a.k.a the fountain of youth. Lucky for us, the market is packed with sheet masks containing concentrated amounts of this little miracle ingredient. We love these: Hanskin Gold Caviar TheFaceShop CollagenMasque Bar Wrinkle Reducing Sheet Mask.

TO HYDRATE: Out of all the the good things we can do for our skin…keeping it hydrated is the most important and probably the most failed step among women. Tisk risk! Even you ultra oily beauties need extra hydration to balance your skin, and dry/combo gals this is a no brainer. Look for masks containing hyalouronic acid, which is pretty much THE ingredient for hydration. Not only does it deliver water to the skin, but it holds it there and stays near the surface where it moisturizes the surface layer. Result? Supple stunner. We love these: Shu Uemura Hydrating Sheet Mask (Kristin loves to put this one in the fridge before applying to shrink her pores.  She says “It’s a good pre-game before Sunday brunch after a long Saturday night!”) , TheFaceShop Hyalouronic AcidSK-II Facial Sheet Mask SKII pumps your face full of vitamins, delivers baby soft  skin and is a favorite of ours for longgggg flights. Who cares how terrified the people sitting next to you look. You’ll arrive looking the freshest.

TO PURIFY: As beauty junkies we know daily powders, foundations and blushes are beyond amazing…but they can cause some congestion on the pore front. Which is why it is important to have a good detox sesh every now + then. Enter the purifying sheet mask. Ingredients like seaweed, star fruit, lavender, tea tree and witch hazel can help detox troubled and congested skin. Whew!
