QUICK TIP: SETTING POWDER
We spend a lot of time and precision applying foundation and concealer exactly where we want the most coverage, only to take a powder brush and swirl the foundation away from where we placed it. Not good! I learned this technique from one of my idols, Mary Greenwell, whom I was lucky enough to go on an international press tour with in 2007 where she was working on Cate Blanchett and I was working on Geoffrey Rush for their movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Anyway, as you can imagine she was incredible and lovely enough to teach me a few things about makeup (and life!). This little trick has saved me time and again. Here’s how:
TOOLS:
- Your Favorite Setting Powder — I used Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder because it’s truly translucent, minimizes pores and is paraben and sulfate free. You can certainly use pressed powder for this technique but I prefer using pressed powder only on the go and using a puff with it.
- A Foundation Brush — choose one that is flat with a curved tip like the Lancôme Foundation Brush #2 so it really presses the powder into the skin, has densely-packed bristles and is synthetic and cruelty-free.
STEPS:
- Sprinkle a small amount of powder into the cap.
- Dip the brush into the powder to load it up on both sides.
- Target your T-zone by pressing (NOT DRAGGING) the brush as you move it repeatedly across the forehead.
- Continue down in between your eyes along the nose, on the sides of the nose and the upper lip.
- Finish by pressing the powder onto the chin.
