SILVER & GOLD

photo: wire image

When it comes to metallic shadows, we normally ask ourselves: do I feel like doing my smoky eye tonight in silver tones or golds/coppers?  But I say: it’s really pretty to wear them both together every now and then!  Sunday night I had the pleasure of doing the lovely Miss Rachel Bilson’s make-up for the Teen Choice Awards.  Because she chose an ethereal ruffled Chloe mini dress and a romantic hair style, we knew we wanted to anchor the whimsical look with a dramatic eye.  Here’s how you can re-create this red carpet look too:

Start with metallic silver and gold/copper powder eye shadows in either loose minerals (like I used here) or pressed in a compact.  Apply the silver shade all over the lid with your finger, lightly dampening your finger with water first before dipping it into the powder.  Then wet a shadow brush with water, tap off the excess, dip it into the gold powder and fill in the crease of you lid just above the silver.  Blend the edges with your finger. Remember your fingers are your best tools so don’t be afraid to use them!

Finish the eyes by leaving the brows bare, adding two coats of mascara, and rimming the inner waterline and both the top and bottom lash lines with a black liner.  Because your eyes are now the main focus, pair them with a light pink cheek and lip, blotting to create more of a flush of color.

So the next time you are stuck and can’t decide which hue to choose, confidently remind yourself that because they are both metallic shades, they look just as pretty together as they do by themselves!
