CATCH A FALLING STAR…

post + photos by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

Glitter is such a fun way to add a little sparkle to your look. But any time you’re sprinkling loose glitter, it’s going to get a little messy. We’ve all tried wiping it off with a makeup wipe but there’s a more effective way to quickly grab it off with tape. Here’s how:

  1. Tear off a piece of tape long enough to wrap around your index finger then wrap it around the tip with the sticky side facing out.
  2. Firmly press the tape over any fallen glitter and lift it off.

That’s it! If you remember my nighttime makeup sequence post, you would have started with your eye makeup before your foundation. But if you already have foundation on, the tape shouldn’t pull off too much of it, unless it was a really messy clean-up job in which case you might have to touch up your foundation.

And because I know you’re going to ask, I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in Intense Blue all over the lid (Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal in Electric Blue is gorgeous too) then sprinkled NYX Loose Blue Glitter on top of it.

For those of you who’ve watched our Cat Eye Video Tutorial and still feel you need more help mastering it, I think you’ll love this winged liquid liner trick for two reasons:

  1. It helps you pinpoint exactly where to make the angle.
  2. It works as a stencil to give you a perfect + steady bottom edge. Kinda genius for a makeup nerd like me!

Here’s all you need to know. (more…)

TOOLS

Orange nail polish

White nails polish

Yellow nail polish

Clear top coat

Tape

Scissors

STEPS

1. Paint your nails with 2 coats of orange nail polish.  It’s really important that you give these coats enough time to dry.  I would suggest allowing a few hours to be sure.  If you would like to play it safe, trying painting them the day before and rocking orange nails for a day. (That’s what I did)

2. Cut tape into strips of tape that are about 1/3 the width of the length of your nails.

3. Place a strip of tape horizontally on the center of each nail.  Press down on the tape securing it to your nail to guarantee clean edges between the colors.

4. Paint the exposed nail below the tape with 2 coats of white nail polish.

5. Paint the exposed nail above the tape with 2 coats of yellow nail polish.

6. Wait 5 minutes before carefully peeling the strip of tape off each nail. Like I mentioned is step number 1, it is important that the orange coat is completely dry so that the polish doesn’t come off with the tape.  Finish with a clear top coat and your done!
