Holiday Haul

POST + GRAPHIC DESIGN BY NORAH CURLEE

With the weather changing and holiday music starting to croon everywhere you go, we beauty/style junkies know one thing: the limited editions are coming. Companies and beauty brands bust out the big guns releasing holiday value sets, new product releases, palettes, limited time quantities… and just the cutest packaging you’ve ever seen. These little bundles of joy are coveted and limited so if you like it…GET IT (while you can). If you find yourself in the spirit of self-less giving (we know, its hard with some of these goodies), they make amazing gifts for any fellow beauty babes in your life.

LUXE LIST: Often times these holiday sets give you more bang for you buck. This is especially handy when buying pricier brands that you maybe wouldn’t have tried. We love this YSL Love and Laquer Reds Set, which has your tips, lips and lashes covered for holiday party-going. While you’re in luxury mode, check out famed photographer Guy Bourdin’s holiday collection for NARS. Our favorite is the Limited Edition Promiscuous Lip Pencil Coffret:  5 shades (four matte, one gloss) + a killer makeup bag. You’ll have your pick of eye shadow palettes, but we are loving this Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood beauty. You get shimmer and matte shades for hundreds of holiday eye-look possibilities!

PAMPER SESH: Skincare brands definitely join in on the fun of holiday bundling and we suggest taking full advantage of their generosity! Like this Ole Henriksen Glow from Head to Toe Blockbuster Set which is packed full of their most popular must-haves. Let’s not forget about certain aromas that only appear once a year (you know all the sugary, spicy, bakery scents). Origins aim to please with their Best of Ginger Set which smells like an oven full of gingerbread men. Only this will make your skin soft, calorie free! We love sets that come with multiple scents to try! This Philosophy Limited Edition Hand Cream set has Homemade Honey Buns, Cranberry Medley, and Spiced Gingerbread Cookie…triple the luxe.

TRENDY TIPS: Nail fanatics will flip over some of the collections this year. You can always count on Essie to bring it on the shade front a la this holiday set. If “the more the merrier” is your motto for your varnish collection then check out newly launched Formula X for Sephora: The Twenty Two set. Twenty-two polish pretties to paint, paint and re-paint. The ELF Party Nail Cube is a budget beauty buy packed with 14 shades of jeweled toned lacquer love (other shades available). Deborah Lippmann has you covered on the glitter front this year with this Starlight Glitter Nail Lacquer Set. Shine on!

WINTER ESSENTIALS: Did someone say ’tis the season? We love us some seasonal goodies! Amp up your winter stash with Birchbox’s Limited Edition Snow Day set. When the weather outside is frightful, this box has fun goodies like comfy socks, hot chocolate and hand cream to warm up your day. Cozy up your pad with this Christmas Home Collection from Jo Malone. Three of their signature scents in candle, room spray and diffuser form. Yes please. Speaking of comfy, how amazing are these Dyptique holiday candles? With limited time only scents like indian incenseorange chai and pine bark…we think its time to stock up.

STOCKING STUFFERS: Our favorite category: the extras. Cute mini gifts perfect not just for stockings, but to have on hand for last minute swaps! So many budget friendly beauties to choose from and there is one for every scenario. Here are a few we just HAD to share. ON THE LIST

post by Kristin Ess graphic design by Eunice Chun

  1. GOLD FEATHER HAIR CLIP – Lately we’ve been so into the half up/half down do’s and this gorgeous gold feather gives us even more of a reason to keep that obsession going. Also, here is a much less expensive DIY version made from gold leather!
  2. LEATHER LIPS MAKEUP POUCH – Can you actually have too many makeup pouches? The answer is no.
  3. ORIBE MOUSSES – Just when you think Oribe products couldn’t be any more perfect, this happens. He recently launched 3 new mousses– one is volumizing, one is for enhancing natural curls and one is for beachy hair. Anything Oribe says about beach hair we will listen to as you may know we’re obsessed with his Apres Beach spray.
  4. AMERICAN APPAREL SHEER POLISHES – Look at this gorgeousness of these sheer polishes. These have been around for a while, but we’re really obsessed with the layering technique as we fade from summer to fall.
  5. HARRY JOSH BLOWDRYER – One of the things that bothers me the most about blowdryers is how “utilitarian” they look in your sparkly bathroom. Not only is this dryer equipped to dry your hair 60% faster than other dryers, but it’s CUTE as a button with it’s matte mint exterior and handmade. It’s an investment but it seems like it will stand the test of time. Save your dollars for this gem.
  6. GHD PRETTY PASTEL FLAT IRON – Speaking of pretty pastel hair tools, GHD has created a new batch (limited edition) of my favorite flat iron inspired by retro candy shoppe colors. I love my black one for the salon and my kit but if I were going to get one for my bathroom at home I’d definitely grab this one.
  7. COLLECTION OF EYELINERS – Sometimes Sephora just gets it! In this box, they’ve compliled their most popular eyeliners. This is a dream gift for anyone who wants to learn the classic cat eye or anyone on a mission to figure out which liner is best for a smoky eye. They’ve put every option in this box and it couldn’t be cooler (or cheaper at $30!!)
  8. NAIL DECALS – If you’re bored with the intricate painting of nail art, no sweat! Try these cute little nail decals by Sara M. Lyons! She’s on Etsy and creates wayyyy too many fun decals to count.
  9. BUNNY MIRROR – Just a sucker for a white rabbit.

OBSESSORIES: LAST MINUTE GIFTS

post: Jaclyn Johnson of SomeNotesOnNapkins.com graphic design: Eunice Chun

To get some genius last minute gift ideas, we went to our trusted gifting guru Jaclyn Johnson of Some Notes on Napkins. Holidays are hard but have no fear, she’s here to help us find baubles and bling that are decently priced!
The Bling:
  • A Merry Mishap– is not only an adorable blog but an adorable etsy shop! I love these cute geo earrings (they come in a bunch of colors) and would pair great with a  perfectly coiffed top knot for a killer holiday look.
  • Also on our radar are these mini bow tie studs from Bauble Bar that are too cute for words. (silence)
The Elements:
The iPhone Addict
The Feet:
The Paper Chaser
The Beauty Addict
You might think getting your beauty-addicted bestie their favorite product would be a win but maybe go outside the box with this Kate Spade Mani/Pedi Folio.
Or this vintage-inspired solid perfume-slash-pin cushion chicness from Anthropologie.
