HOW TO USE A BROW BRUSH

POST & PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

We get a lot of emails asking how to use brushes correctly so I hope this helps you out a little! A brow brush is designed to be stiff and angled for a reason. And we use the slanted edge to shade and the tip of the edge to outline. Put those components together and a brow brush is quite frankly a thing of perfection! Here’s how to use it properly:  (more…)

LASH BESTIES

Pick a pair and thank me later! Why are two mascaras better than one? Because each wand is designed to do different things and each formula created for completely different tasks as well. Some add volume, others separate, some lengthen, others create “tubes” around each lash… and when you combine the power of two, the effect is gorgeous. More is more, ladies! Here’s how to do it:

COCKTAIL #1:

  1. Use the volumizing mascara by stroking and wiggling the wand through the upper and bottom lashes. Start at the base and pull the wand all the way through to the tips.
  2. Switch to the lengthening mascara (don’t wait more than a minute in between the two formulas so you can catch it before the first formula dries). Concentrate the wand at the root of the lashes by stamping it across the roots. Revisit my Root Stamp Tutorial to see how. Then pull the final stroke all the way to the tip to lengthen.

  • MAGNIFY + TOP COAT: Leave it to the clever folks at Covergirl to create one tube with two wands and two formulas in CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by lashblast MascaraUse Wand #1 to build volume and Wand #2 to make the lashes as shiny as you can get!

BODY MOISTURIZING MUST

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Aren’t you tired of battling dryness every single winter? Then spending Spring trying to undo it? It’s not your fault; between having the heat on at home, in the car, space heaters under our desks… our skin doesn’t stand a chance. Until now! I learned this trick from a yoga instructor in New Mexico over the holidays; you know, one of those women who looks twenty years younger than her age. I was so embarrassed when she walked over to check my form and my legs were so scaly no matter how much lotion I piled on. I had to say something and she nonchalantly told me to always apply body oil before showering instead of after. At first it sounded bizarre but she was totally right! One of the most drying things that we do to ourselves is taking a hot shower. The outer layer of our skin (the epidermis) is made up of keratin and oil to protect the keratin. The hot water temperature softens the oil layer until it melts and washes away. Yes, switching to a moisturizing body wash is a definite must. But in the winter we tend to take not only hotter showers but longer ones too and a moisturizing body wash isn’t enough to keep your skin from getting dry. I’m sure you’re already using a moisturizing body wash but still noticing how much drier your skin is in the winter time. So try this technique like our model Alyssa above and let us know if it works for you too! (more…)
