Last month we studied (and fell in love with) the new ways to create red lips (revisit our Red Lipstick Evolved Tutorial if you missed it!). But today we’re diving into the world of nude lips and how far they’ve come as well. I can remember a decade ago when the only nude lipsticks in my kit were NARS Honolulu Honey and NARS Belle Du Jour (still classics and still in my kit!). HOW TO HIGHLIGHT

We’ve done a couple tutorials on Contouring and Highlighting (revisit this one and this one) but today we’re focusing on an intense liquid highlight from HEAVEN! It reflects light in all the right places and really brings the skin to life. I’ve enlisted my colleague Sophia Flores again to model and break down exactly how she does it above (and why she does it before foundation instead of after!). To keep the focus on the highlighting technique and how to apply foundation with it, we purposefully didn’t do any makeup on her eyes, cheeks or lip. (more…)

FALL MAKEUP TREND ALERT

The orange lip trend is everywhere this Fall but can be a little intimidating. How do I wear it? What eye makeup do I wear it with? Blush or bronzer? Of course with makeup there are no rules and however you want to express yourself, I stand behind you! But this is how I’d do it. And maybe you’re thinking you have no interest in this trend, but I’m nonchalantly asking you (with no hard feelings either way)… what do you have to lose? You try it and if you’re not feeling it, you wipe it off and go with something else! Here’s exactly what I did on my lovely model Brook Power above. (more…)

RED LIPSTICK EVOLVED

Lipstick has come a long way since its moniker was coined in 1880! Not that I don’t still love lipstick and plan on using it until the day I die… but in the last few years, new textures and finishes have emerged that have earned their keep along side of lipstick in our makeup drawers. Some last all day and never end up on your teeth, others are velvety and some are ingeniously matte and shiny at the same time! To really study them, I picked one color (a classic red) and one model (my sweet friend Sophia) to see how they compare and contrast. None look like a lipstick, even though all are just as pigmented and intense.  (more…)
