FULL COVERAGE MAKEUP

This is what I personally do every day. Because full coverage foundation everywhere covers but ages me. I feel pretty when I put it on in the bathroom but when I look at it in the car mirror, it makes my creases look deeper and my pores bigger. On the other hand, if I just wear regular foundation, my chin and my nose still are red, my sun spots are still glaring and any blemishes I might have aren’t covered. So here’s the beautiful compromise that I made. First I apply my favorite tinted moisturizer all over my face and neck to even out my skin tone enough and give me a glowing radiance. Then I pump a tiny bit of my favorite full coverage foundation and apply it only to the areas that I want more coverage. These areas are nowhere near my smile lines or creases so I don’t have to worry about it settling into them and making them bigger. Then I do a quick powder and a quick spritz of my favorite setting spray and go!

FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION MAGIC

Cream foundations offer the most coverage option of any foundation. If you want to knock out dark spots, acne and acne scars and redness, it’s definitely your best solution. They also last longer than liquid foundation. But sometimes they are a little too cakey and opaque, making the skin look less alive and more what I like to call “news caster”. I also hate it when it just sits on top of the skin then comes off on my phone and anything it comes in contact with. But there is a way to break it down a little and make it become more one with its environment. When you apply primer first, then mix the same primer into the foundation, the molecules from the primer on the skin and the primer in the foundation attract each other and blend seamlessly. When you mix primer instead of lotion or cream into cream foundation, you keep the full coverage but make it more wearable and less cakey.

STEPS:

Prep: Apply the primer all over your face.

  1. Skim a nickel-sized amount from the surface of the foundation with the spatula. This works the same if you are using a cream foundation stick as well.
  2. Flatten it across the artist’s palette repeatedly to thin it out.
  3. Squeeze a small amount of the primer onto the palette. (You can squeeze it directly onto the foundation “pile” instead of next to it, which I only did for photographic purposes,)
  4. Mix the two together with the spatula. If you’re using your finger, just swirl them together.
  5. Dip your foundation brush into the mixture to load it up.
  6. Buff the brush across your skin in circular motions.
  7. Continue all over your face and neck until you have the coverage you need.

BB CUSHION COMPACT

Once in a few years an innovative product comes along that completely revolutionizes the makeup world. So you can imagine the frenzy that ensued in our office when our friends at Laneige sent us the world’s first ever foundation-forward Cushion Compact! Everything about it screams why didn’t anyone think of this before?! How many times have you wished your foundation was portable like a cream foundation pot but not such a heavy formula that leaves a thick residue on the side of your cell phone? Every day unfortunately. This new system allows you to simply tap the antimicrobial applicator puff against the patented air cushion (with over 800,000 air cells!) and pat it anywhere that needs a little extra love.

The 5-in-1 BB (super-thin) formula:

  • brightens with Melacrusher technology,
  • protects with Broad Spectrum SPF 50+,
  • hydrates skin with Optimal Mineral Water,
  • prevents shine and
  • gives long-lasting coverage.

Here’s how to make it your best friend too!

STEPS:

  1. Open the compact and remove the applicator puff. Lift open the lid cover just beneath it.
  2. Slide two fingers beneath the strap on the applicator puff and press it against the air cushion to load up a light layer of the BB foundation. The amazing thing you’ll notice with this formula is the amount of coverage you get from such a thin layer!
  3. Start under your eyes and press the sponge in a stippling motion as you move across the area. Stippling is always better than wiping, as it really presses it into the skin.
  4. Continue across your forehead as Angelique demonstrated above.
  5. Keep pressing along your cheek area. Load it back up with more product by tapping it against the cushion whenever needed.
  6. Stipple across your other cheek.
  7. Don’t forget your neck and chin!

Did you know that Laneige BB Cushion Compact is a global million seller and one is sold every 10 seconds?! And now you can get your own here stateside at Target here!

A BLANK CANVAS

For some of us, melasma and hyperpigmentation are a part of life and every now and then we have an important occasion that calls for full coverage. But that doesn’t mean we have to go out and buy a full coverage foundation (it’s not good to wear that much coverage on a daily basis anyway). Just make your own with concealer and face lotion! I personally think it gives better coverage than the “full coverage” foundations that are out there. Again, please don’t do this every day, as I don’t know how sensitive your skin is to breakouts, even though this shouldn’t cause a breakout as concealers are formulated to also cover blemishes. So just save it for an emergency situation where you find out you’re going to be on television or have your picture taken for something important! Here’s how: (more…)
