I love picking one product on one feature and see if it’s enough to change a look. Yes of course a red lipstick would make a very dramatic difference! But will a single sweep of a frosted shadow? So I tried it on Brook and yes, it’s subtle but it’s gorgeous! And something you must try this winter when you don’t have time to do a smoky eye or a winged liner. It really brightens the eye and draws attention straight there, in the best way possible. Here’s how:

STEPS:

Pre-step: Wet the brush with water or a mixing medium then dip it in the shadow to make a paste.

  1. Sweep the shadow all over the lid and crease.
  2. Add it to the inner corner.
  3. Trace it along the bottom lashline.
  4. Add a few coats of mascara.

I minimized the rest of her makeup here as not to compete but it would look especially gorgeous with this rose blush and a rosy-pink lip!

SUGAR SHADES OF SUMMER

At the beginning of this Summer we had loads of fun with matte pastels (revisit the tutorial here)! But now that the dog days of Summer are here, with humidity and heat scoring off the charts, matte shadows and glistening skin work against each other and don’t do you any favors. Luckily the solution is simple! Switch over to sugar shades! These are shimmery frosted shades of pink, white, taupe and silver and will get you through the final Summer months. There are all kinds of variations on how to apply them; you can do a single wash of color, or try this Pink Cut Crease paired with a Cat Eye! It’s also nice because you can’t really see the cut crease when the eyes are open but when you blink or look down, it’s a gorgeous sweet surprise! Here’s how:  (more…)

HOLIDAY MAKEUP INSPIRATION

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

There’s something so pretty about a frosty eye paired with a frosty lip! You’d think it will wash you out, but if you make sure to anchor the look with 1. a strong dark brow, 2. a black inner rim and 3. black mascara, I promise you, you’ll be happily surprised! Here’s how to recreate the shimmery look I did on the lovely Miss Bria Murphy above:

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. Paint the entire lid with the frost shadow stick.
  2. Trace the frost shadow stick along the lower lashline and blend it with your finger as shown above.
  3. Rim the inner waterline with the black pencil.
  4. Sweep the gold shadow along the crease of the upper lid.
  5. Coat the lashes with mascara.
  6. Contour your cheeks with the bronzer. Revisit my Contouring 101 Tutorial if needed. Then apply the highlighter above the cheekbones.
  7. Finish by painting your lips directly from the tube or with a lip brush for more precision.

Sometimes even I have to eat my words (hrrumph!) but this time it’s so worth it! I’ve always been, well a wee bit snobby against the whole frosty lip look. I get why people would be attracted to it, but have never seen anyone pull it off without looking a little dated. BUT…
