FOUNDATION QUICK TIP

For some of you, this is a no-brainer. But for many out there, this isn’t happening! I can’t tell you how many times I see someone’s foundation end on her jawline so obviously that it’s distracting. Do I tell her? Does it matter? I don’t want to hurt her feelings but it’s such a quick fix and maybe she didn’t think about. So I’m making my case here to please bring your foundation down to include your necks. Unless you’re wearing a turtleneck, it’s a must-do, otherwise your foundation won’t be seamless but a dead giveaway that you’re wearing it.

My biggest advice for this though is to do the rest of your makeup first, leaving foundation for last. Then put your top/dress on so you don’t get foundation on the collar or neckline. Once it’s on, you can then finish your look with foundation.

STEPS:

  1. Apply foundation all over your face (with a brush or sponge or your fingers) like you normally would.
  2. Now bring the brush all the way down to include your neck. Depending on your top’s neckline, you can bring it down even further.

PRE-POWDER MUST

Here’s the deal. Sometimes when we apply foundation, we get a little carried away in the coverage. And by we, I mostly mean me! I can’t help it. I see things that I want to cover and go back and add another layer to the area, move on, go back and add another layer until I’m happy with the result. But if I were to immediately powder after, the areas where the foundation hasn’t been absorbed in the skin or is in a little, ahem, excess, it’s going to get cakey in those areas. It’s just what happens when you apply powder until of “fresh” foundation. Which is why this trick is a lifesaver! Just take a second to blot the skin after you apply foundation (and cream blush/bronzer) but before you powder, accomplishing two things: 1. it absorbs the excess foundation that would have otherwise gotten “cakey” when you powdered it and 2. it really presses the product into the skin. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. Apply foundation all over like you typically would.
  2. Stipple cream blush and/or cream bronzer.
  3. Place the tissue over your flat hand.
  4. Fold the “flaps” under and tuck with your outside fingers/thumb as Penelope demonstrated above.
  5. Press and roll your fingers on the skin..
  6. Lift your hand up and repeat in another area until you’ve blotted your whole face.
  7. Now you can go back and powder.
  8. Focus on your T-zone.

THE “I’M NOT WEARING FOUNDATION” TRICK

Just hear me out! There’s a way to wear foundation but make it look like you’re not. Of course you have to first pick a foundation that becomes one with your skin as opposed to creating a mask, then take a second and go back and do this! Even if you don’t have them! Here’s why: if you have freckles and you wear foundation, they get covered up. If you weren’t wearing foundation, they’d show. So perfect your skin with foundation, then go back and dot on a dozen freckles and it will create the illusion that you’re not wearing any foundation! Because if you were, they’d be covered up. Make sense? And for an added bonus, freckles have something very youthful about them, so you’ll look younger too. Here’s how!

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. First apply foundation all over your face and neck as you usually would.
  2. Next stipple on the cream blush on the top half of the apple and along the cheekbone.
  3. Go back and dot on four to five freckles on one cheek. Add a few on the nose as well.
  4. Do the same on the other cheek.
  5. Now give the freckles a light tap to press it into the skin.

You can go back and spot powder lightly with an eyeshadow brush any areas that tend to get shiny. Just make sure to use translucent powder so it doesn’t cover up the freckles and undo the illusion. By the way, my lighting was so gorgeous for this shoot that it some of the freckles got blown out. But trust me, in person you can really see them and it’s worth trying out!

BB CUSHION COMPACT

Once in a few years an innovative product comes along that completely revolutionizes the makeup world. So you can imagine the frenzy that ensued in our office when our friends at Laneige sent us the world’s first ever foundation-forward Cushion Compact! Everything about it screams why didn’t anyone think of this before?! How many times have you wished your foundation was portable like a cream foundation pot but not such a heavy formula that leaves a thick residue on the side of your cell phone? Every day unfortunately. This new system allows you to simply tap the antimicrobial applicator puff against the patented air cushion (with over 800,000 air cells!) and pat it anywhere that needs a little extra love.

The 5-in-1 BB (super-thin) formula:

STEPS:

  1. Open the compact and remove the applicator puff. Lift open the lid cover just beneath it.
  2. Slide two fingers beneath the strap on the applicator puff and press it against the air cushion to load up a light layer of the BB foundation. The amazing thing you’ll notice with this formula is the amount of coverage you get from such a thin layer!
  3. Start under your eyes and press the sponge in a stippling motion as you move across the area. Stippling is always better than wiping, as it really presses it into the skin.
  4. Continue across your forehead as Angelique demonstrated above.
  5. Keep pressing along your cheek area. Load it back up with more product by tapping it against the cushion whenever needed.
  6. Stipple across your other cheek.
  7. Don’t forget your neck and chin!

Did you know that Laneige BB Cushion Compact is a global million seller and one is sold every 10 seconds?! And now you can get your own here stateside at Target here!
