FALL FASHION LIP TRANSLATION

You’d have to be living under a rock to miss this Oxblood fashion trend! Ok just kidding but seriously it’s been everywhere from handbags, jeans and heels to translated as a lip statement on the runways, the Emmy’s and the VMA’s. And the only way to do it is with a longwear lip lacquer. Why? Because there is nothing worse than having a deep red statement lip smearing and traveling past your lips. Seasons in between seasons are often the best. Pre-fall is great because you get a chance to mix the brightness of summer with the moody trend tones of fall. Today we’re showing you the majority of the colors we’ll be using in our upcoming mani tutorials. We always like to give you a lil preview so you can stock up and get your nail art kit ready to go. A couple of them might be a little hard to find, depending on where you are, but you can always get something similar at your local beauty supply…

Muted lilac– very subtle, equally purple and gray.
Nautical blue– there’s something so sailor-y about this color.
Perfect pink– the fanciest flamingo we ever did see.
Dark neutral– dark + rich, complimentary to bright poppy colors when doing nail art.
Purple-ish, Pink-ish– not sure what to call it but OBSESSED.
Rich, bright yellow– the happiest color of all.
Teal– just look down at your nails and think about vacation.

When we were asked to participate in the Styld.By campaign for the GAP in Rue Magazine, not only were we totally honored, but we thought this would be a great way to introduce ourselves to you guys one at a time! We’re always working behind the scenes here at TBD to create new beauty tutorials, but we never really pop out to say hello. I’m Kristin Ess and I do the hair + nail tutorials.
I started doing hair at 15 and have never looked back. In the hair industry, as some of you probably know, wearing all black is essential because we’re SO GOOD at ruining our clothes with hair color. When I’m not working in my salon, I have way more room to play with color and I really enjoy that time. For the GAP Styld.By campaign, they asked us to mix something of our own with something from the GAP. I thought that was pretty cool because full outfits rarely come from one store. I brought a long pleated yellow skirt with me and immediately gravitated toward a grass green striped GAP tank and colorful accessories. Stylist Jen Pinkston then rolled up the sleeves on this super soft GAP denim button down, pinned a red rosette on it and I was in heaven. This is now one of the most comfortable + colorful outfits I own.

The Mag: Working on this with the uber-stylish Rue Magazine was amazing because we were really collaborating with friends. That’s truly what the blogging and web world is all about, isn’t it? One of my closest friends Angela Kohler, took all of the photos. She’s been working with us at TBD since day one and I’ve even forced her to be in one of my braid tutorials! I always say- everyone should know how great it feels to have Angela take their photo. Another one of my closest and mostest, Bri, designed the layout in this issue of Rue and every issue before that. She’s just plain brilliant. Rue is an incredible online magazine packed to the sparkling brim with inspiration. Check it out and you’ll be hooked!

TWO MINUTE EYE

We get a lot of emails asking for makeup looks that are quick + easy and we hope you’ll love this sweet little four stepper! It’s lovely for summer and very simple to do… here’s how:

Dampen a shadow brush with water {for more intensity} and dip it into a purple mineral shadow. We used this pigment in Violet. Then sweep it across the lid.
Trace a cream shadow across your bottom lash line with a liner brush.
Dip a dry, rounded crease brush into a rose gold mineral shadow {we used this pigment in Pink Bronze} and sweep it along your crease from the inner corner to the outer corner then along your lower lashline just below the purple cream shadow.
Finish the look with a couple coats of your favorite mascara.

It’s easy and fast because it’s basically a color wash with a “sunset” above it. But be prepared to receive tons of compliments throughout the day because of the happy colors! Pair it with a peach cheek + lip to stay sweet or with a red lip for a fun, hipster look.
