ELECTRIC BLUE EYE POP

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

If Coachella Coral is the It Lip Color for Spring, then this is the It Shade for the eye! It all started at the Marc Jacobs runway show and has been popping up everywhere since. Why? Because it’s bold yet wearable and makes a gorgeous statement. So today I’m serving it up four ways for whatever way calls to you and says “Wear me!”:

MENU:

  • CAT EYE: Blue Liquid Liner — I used Lime Crime Liquid Liner in Lazuli. This ultra-flirty option is really easy to do since all of our TBD readers have mastered the cat eye by now… (if you’re tardy to the party, revisit my Cat Eye 123 Tutorial or Get Catty Video). All this look entails is switching to a blue liquid liner!
  • COLOR WASH: Blue Eye Shadow — I used Nautalus Prime from the Lime Crime Aquataenia Palette but NARS Single Shadow in Outremer is also incredible. This is how the models wore their eye makeup in the Marc Jacobs show and is really simple as well. All you have to do is apply the single blue color all over the upper lid and crease.
  • COLORED LASHES: Blue Colored Mascara — I used Butter London Wink Mascara in Inky Six. If you can apply mascara, you can rock this look. It’s the most subtle of the four but still very pretty. If you’re not ready to wear blue mascara, layer it over black mascara for an even more subtle blue.
  • DOUBLE RIM: Blue Waterproof Eyeliner — I used Stila Smudge Stick in Ultramarine. Line the upper lashline than either the lower lashline or the inner waterline.

Pair each look with a pale pink, peach or nude lip and cheek to let the eyes have the limelight. And let us know which one is your favorite in the comments below!

RAVE MAKEUP INSPIRATION

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Raves are getting more and more popular and are the perfect time to go neon! You let go of inhibitions when you go underground, so why not do the same with your makeup? Typically, pastel pink shadow borders on sickly, but paired with a neon pink liner and anchored with a black wing and it’s not only wearable but quite pretty!! Here’s how:

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. Apply the pastel pink shadow all over the lid and crease with a shadow brush.
  2. Line the upper lid with the neon pink pencil and wing it out and up. Go a little thick with this one so there’s room for the black liner.
  3. Trace the lashline with the black liquid liner and wing it out and up, following the neon pink line.
  4. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

Pair it with a fuchsia lip. And remember, this look is created specifically for raves and clubbing… not intended for every day!

MUSIC FESTIVAL LIP STAIN

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Every year I try to tell you that an orange lip is not only totally wearable, but it’s a must at music festivals! Why you ask? Because it adds a bit of sophistication to the bohemian cutoffs, gladiator sandals, fringe and aviator shades in a way that is bold and gorgeous (and still complementary). So today, I’m breaking it down for you in a protocol that will last all day & night and never lose a kilowatt of brightness. Here’s how:  (more…)

THE JAWLINE SLIM

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE

Jawlines are always an interesting subject. Some of us have naturally gorgeous jawlines, some have a little double chin (no matter what we weigh) and some of our jawlines are starting to sag (thanks Gravity!). All of our jawlines can benefit from a little highlighting and contouring. I used to just contour jawlines until I learned that adding a highlight just above it makes the illusion more effective. Here’s how:  (more…)
