DIY TOUCH UPS FOR THE PETITE CLUTCH

photos + post by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

This little lifesaver is the brainchild of my lovely {and clever} client Emmy Rossum! Last Saturday I had the pleasure of doing her makeup for her Shameless panel at Comic Con, but I did it at 6:30am here in LA for her to leave at 8 and drive two hours to San Diego and attend the event until 5pm, without me there to help her with touch ups. Of course lipstick and blotting papers fit in her clutch, but not her foundation bottle or cream eye shadow. As I was trying to find a way to make it work, Emmy said “hold on!” and calmly found a contact lens storage case in her drawer. Brilliant! Here’s what followed that we can all easily do whenever we know we’ll need to touch up after a long day but don’t want to bring a big bag: (more…)

FASHION FRIDAY

post by kristin ess + eunice chun

Before we get going on prom hair and makeup tutorials, let’s discuss the clutch. We all know what it’s like to stuff everything we possibly can into a small bag at the last second. Let’s try and avoid that this prom season. In this post we’re trying to keep you from a tight squeeze.

ONE: Go to a department store and ask the sales person for a sample of your favorite perfume. Tuck that into the corner along with some bobby pins for any hair mishaps that may occur. You could even wrap them together with using a ponytail holder just in case you want to throw all your hair up later. Having them in the corner of your bag makes them a lot easier to find.

TWO: If you think you’ll need hairspray make sure you pick up a travel size bottle. Put it in the very bottom of your purse along with a comb. Those are the two things you’re going to touch less than the others, so putting them toward the bottom makes the most sense.

THREE: Your phone, blotting papers, and a flat leather card case will sit flat, side-by-side. Plus having your ID, debit card and/or cash in one place will keep you from having to dig around.

FOUR: Take a fancy vintage-inspired lipstick + compact to keep it cute! You can check the back of your hair in the bathroom mirror using your compact. Dying over this beautiful gold “Mad Men” Estee Lauder collection.

FIVE: Trusty Tip- use a quick shot of spray paint to color match a safety pin (or two) to your dress for any emergencies. Tuck those into the other side along with some individual pieces of gum or couple of mints.

I know, I know… “What about my keys!?” Think ahead. Leave a hide-a-key or put a single house key under the mat to avoid more clutter.

WE HEART TARTE

By now you must know how much we love Tarte. And surely you’re also aware of how much we love doing giveaways, so this post is double the excitement! Tarte is generously sponsoring an exclusive giveaway with their new “Puttin’ on the Glitz” Color Collection clutch by gifting them to FIVE readers! Here’s why this thing is so rad — it’s like a portfolio of makeup. It comes with 3 palettes that you can swap in & out, and it can fully replace your purse when traveling light.

GIRLS, GET READY

photo: mariacarlaboscono.hpg.ig.com.br post designed by kristin ess

It’s that time of year again.  Girls everywhere don beautiful gowns, paint their faces and curl their hair.  Then their dates present them with lovely corsages and escort them to fancy cars.  The whole evening feels like a fairytale… with the exception of the girl who forgot to properly prepare!  Don’t forget about what goes in your purse or clutch. Most prom-going-princesses don’t even think about these little things until they’re rushing out the door.

TBD’s prom night check list:

lipstick or lip gloss

powder compact (don’t forget to touch up unwanted shine before pictures!)

i.d. card

cash

phone

keys

camera

doublestick tape

bobby pins (if your hair is up)

small brush or comb (if your hair is down)

saftey pin
