CATCH A FALLING STAR…

post + photos by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun

Glitter is such a fun way to add a little sparkle to your look. But any time you’re sprinkling loose glitter, it’s going to get a little messy. We’ve all tried wiping it off with a makeup wipe but there’s a more effective way to quickly grab it off with tape. Here’s how:

  1. Tear off a piece of tape long enough to wrap around your index finger then wrap it around the tip with the sticky side facing out.
  2. Firmly press the tape over any fallen glitter and lift it off.

That’s it! If you remember my nighttime makeup sequence post, you would have started with your eye makeup before your foundation. But if you already have foundation on, the tape shouldn’t pull off too much of it, unless it was a really messy clean-up job in which case you might have to touch up your foundation.

And because I know you’re going to ask, I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in Intense Blue all over the lid (Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal in Electric Blue is gorgeous too) then sprinkled NYX Loose Blue Glitter on top of it.

This Mani Monday is all about clean up! When you work hard to make your nails look beeeeautiful, you must go that extra mile. I’m sure a lot of you already do this, but we see plenty of photos from people who either don’t know or just don’t do it. And let me tell you, it makes a HUGE difference! NAILED IT!

There’s something really nice about taking a break from nail polish for a second, right? There are so many fun nail trends today that it makes  you want to change things up… a lot! In this tutorial, we show you how to give yourself a perfectly polished, natural manicure that looks lovely and allows your nails to breathe.

  • Always clean your tools properly before you begin. You can simply wipe them down with alcohol and a cotton ball, b for proper sterilization we placed our metal tools on a cookie sheet (make sure they don’t have plastic on them) and baked them at 375 for 15 minutes. Make sure to let them cool off completely before using.
  • You want to file your nails dry. Filing wet nails can cause splitting or peeling. Not cute!
  • Soak your nails in a bowl of warm water. Add a little bath salt or Epsom salt to your water for softening. Or add liquid soap for cleansing. We added 5 chamomile oil drops as well to soothe an moisturize.
  • Next apply a cuticle oil or cream to keep the cuticle soft while you’re doing your manicure.
  • Using an orange stick or a metal pusher as seen above, push your cuticles back. Apply light pressure and don’t be too aggressive.
  • If you don’t have an orange stick or metal pusher, you can push the cuticle back with a hand towel.
  • If you’re a pro, you can very carefully trim the cuticle. It’s best to leave this step to a manicurist, but if you want to do it yourself at home, make sure you know what you’re doing! It can be very painful if you cut yourself.
  • Last, buff the nail using a 3 or 4 sided buffer. The shine from buffing is AMAZING!! It’s better than any top coat you could ever apply. Buffing takes patience, but it’s so pretty once it’s done. Don’t forget to buff the edges of the nail where you filed! This will keep it from snagging.

Sometimes our boyfriends, manfriends, husbands and best guy friends don’t prioritize hair the same way we do. That’s totally fine, but what about when there’s a wedding, birthday, holiday or just a night out with friends and there’s a jungle growing on the back of his neck? I mean, a man on the run doesn’t always have time to line up his side burns symmetrically. Here’s how to help him out if he can’t make it in to see his hair stylist.

1: Trimmers… Use these on the back of his neck to get all the stray, wild hairs. Don’t go in to the actual hair line and mess up the cut. Anything that’s part of a”solid” line of hair shouldn’t be touched. Ask him where he thinks you should stop and simply take off anything that looks out of place. If his hair is longer, have him hold it up while you clean his hairline or clip it up out of the way so your hands are free. Make sure he’s standing straight and not leaning to one side. That will keep it from getting crooked. Take a towel and dust the loose hairs off after, then check your work. Go back in if you need to. After you’re done, avoid putting anything wet on it like lotion or aftershave as they can irritate the skin when it’s freshly done with electric trimmers.

2. Comb… Use this to help trim up his side burns. The comb will be your guide and to keep you from making the side burns too short. Ask him to hold the comb wherever he wants them to stop. Take the trimmers and buzz whatever falls below the comb. Then stand directly in front of him to see where the other one should go. Use your thumbs to line them up. Put one thumb at the bottom line of the finished one, and the other thumb where the second side burn should stop. Use your comb and trimmer to repeat the process on that side. Last, go back to front and center to check that they’re even. Dust with a towel.

Don’t forget, you’re not cutting his hair so it doesn’t need to be perfect. You’re just doing simple grooming and keeping him from looking like a sasquatch before an outing.
