Here’s what you need to know. Manuka honey is created by bees who feed on the nectar of the Manuka flower, found in New Zealand. The ingestible and topical qualities and benefits have been renowned for many years. My friends and I can not stop talking about it. I did a personal experiment for two weeks, using this mask every other night, and can’t begin to tell you about the transformation in my skin. I don’t have a single blemish, I no longer have a dry chapped chin and my skin is mega-moisturized and plump. Almost like my fine lines shrunk! It’s almost weird. I might start doing it every night to see what miracles happen then! Anyway, I’m dying for you guys to try it and tell me if you have the same findings too. I’ve read about crash victims using it and healing everything with no scars too. Here’s how, just make sure you test a small area of your skin first to make sure you’re not allergic:

TOOLS:

  • A Jar of Manuka Honey — Make sure it’s 100% raw with a Bio Active 12+ or higher and it’s cold-pressed, which makes it anti-bacterial. I love this one used on Chloe below as well as this one.
  • A Muslin Cloth (or wash cloth) — this three-pack is my favorite. I’m going to do a tutorial dedicated specifically to why you have to switch from splashing your face to using a muslin cloth to wipe it clean. It gently exfoliates while it wipes and will change the texture of your skin for the better.

If you’re not a DIY kind of gal, start looking for products with Manuka Honey in them, if only for the intense moisture it provides! There’s this Manuka Mask Single ($4), this face mask and this moisturizer.

**Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and skincare is not one-size-fits-all. As with all products that you put on your skin, be your own advocate, talk to your dermatologist, do a patch test and decide for yourself what is right for you.

HOW TO COVER UP A PIMPLE

Ok, we’re going there today… how to cover up a pimple! I don’t know a single soul who has never had a blemish. I get mine monthly and get them on my body from time to time as well. It’s nothing to be ashamed of or upset about… it’s just part of being a human being; and when they creep up on us, there’s no need to fret. But let me be the first to tell you covering up is a three-part process. If you skip one of the three (most people just apply concealer), it won’t fully cover it or last that long. This is still a quick method and well worth it! Here’s how:

TOOLS:

STEPS:

  1. First apply the green primer directly on the blemish with a concealer brush.
  2. Use your finger to tap it in.
  3. Smooth around the perimeter.
  4. Switch to the concealer stick and use the brush to apply it on top.
  5. Don’t forget the perimeter! The perimeter is the tattle tale that needs to be blended all the way.
  6. Set it with powder. It has to be with a puff so you can press it on and not a brush that will sweep away your work thus far.

**This post is not photoshopped or retouched as it’s important to see the actual results!

ACNE FIGHTER

A couple months ago we shared how to fight wrinkles with our Red Light LED Therapy Tutorial. We got so many requests for the blue version in the comments that I researched, polled  my colleagues, asked my dermatologist and found the three that we found work the best. Here’s why a blue light LED at-home handheld device is the bomb to fight acne:

  1. It helps kill bacteria that causes many of your breakouts.
  2. It helps clear up existing acne.
  3. It helps prevent future blemishes.
  4. It calms the inflammation and gets your skin to mellow out.
  5. It’s safe for sensitive skin!
  6. Because it’s not a cream/toner/lotion, you don’t have to worry about it drying out your skin, irritating it or having a reaction from it. But you can use a Blue Light LED device in conjunction with your favorite acne skincare.

TBD FAVES:

  • Brook is using the Pulsaderm Blue above because its head covers a big area at once and it really calms my flare ups helping my skin clear up.
  • We also like the Revive LED Therapy because it made a dramatic difference in my cousin’s skin and it’s on sale right now!
  • Lastly, the Tanda Zap is awesome for when a big blemish has parked itself on your face because it targets it not only with a blue LED light but also with sonic vibration and a light warming to get it to chill out fast.

STEPS:

  1. After washing your face, pat it dry. Put on the safety googles that come with the handheld device (I didn’t photograph her wearing them because it crushed my flow!) or place moistened cotton pads over each eye, but then you need to meditate or talk on the phone as you won’t be able to see instead of what you can do in step 2!
  2. Sit down to watch TV or YouTube or while sitting at your desk or on your laptop, hold the device over each affected area for 3 minutes.
  3. Repeat daily and you’ll start to notice a difference within one week! My chin has been a nightmare this winter with acne and a rash-like dermatitus redness thing that’s way harsh, Tai! But 5 days with my Pulsaderm handheld and it calmed down and cleared up.

TACKLE ACNE & AGING SIMULTANEOUSLY

It’s easy to think you can only tackle acne OR aging, but not both at the same time. So if  we have acne, we just focus on that because it’s an immediate issue, and we don’t think we have the luxury to worry about the future, or we think an anti-wrinkle cream will break us out. Well here’s a proposed nighttime routine to battle both simultaneously the way that I do! Every night, start with your favorite anti-acne product, but only apply it thinly in the areas that you need it. Then quickly switch to your favorite anti-aging cream and apply it over the areas that you don’t worry about now but will creep up on you later! Here’s how:

TBD FAVORITES:

  • Look for an anti-acne medication that has either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide combined with soothing formulas that won’t cause a third problem: irritation (try this one) or try this one that uses a more natural approach. But if you have found one that works for you, stick with it!
  • Two of our favorite anti-aging creams are this one for its powerful vitamin C and triple oxygen and this one for its combination of peptides, hyalauronic acid and anti-oxidants. Or try this one if you’re on a budget!

ANTI-ACNE STEPS:

  1. Pump the size of a half-pea onto the palm of your hand.
  2. Slap your hands back and forth like you’re dusting them off to really thin it out across your fingers.
  3. Quickly swipe your fingers against your cheeks like you’re wiping off something that landed on them.
  4. Repeat on your forehead (if that’s an acne-prone area for you).
  5. Swipe them along the top and sides of your nose.
  6. Finally swipe them across your chin.

ANTI-AGING STEPS:

  1. Pump a couple times onto your fingertips as demonstrated above.
  2. Wipe your fingers back and forth against each other to spread it evenly.
  3. Dab it under your eyes (not too close so it doesn’t creep in while you’re sleeping and irritate them, causing puffiness) as well as on the upper lids themselves.
  4. Dab it along your lip lines and nasal labial lines.
  5. Finish by patting the rest over your neck and chest.

If this is too much for you (you know who you are, just admit it!), there are anti-acne anti-aging systems that tackle both in one solution! This one is my personal favorite and this one is popular too! Just remember, if you spend your twenties and thirties only concerned about clear skin, you’re missing years that you could have had under your belt tackling future wrinkles that one day appeared out of nowhere when you look in the rear-view mirror  at a stop light. It’s the one thing I wish I could tell my younger self regarding skincare… And don’t forget sunscreen!!
