MAKEUP FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

POST + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

There’s nothing worse than doing an acne treatment regime only to undo it with the wrong makeup. Through the years, I’ve learned to be very sensitive with my clients’ skin. I used to think “oh I just do their makeup on the red carpet a couple times a month, it can’t do any damage!” but then I remembered that these lovely girls get their makeup done at 5am five times a week for their TV shows and their skin is going through the ringer and I should be more cautious! So these have become our favorites to keep their skin clear and gorgeous. Some of these products made it into my kit through trial and error while others were demanded by my clients who know that they work and won’t take any chances! Hope they help you too. Please share your favorites in the comments below as well! (more…)

DIY WHEATGRASS ICE CUBES

Written by: Sarah St. Lifer, Graphic Design: Eunice Chun

It goes without saying that we always opt for the extra shot of wheatgrass when we’re grabbing a beverage at our local juice shop. Though tough to swallow, the roster of health benefits could put the menu of Yogurtland toppings to shame. As a powerful antioxidant, that tiny shot will help combat cancer, diabetes, and the common cold. And, that post-shot glow isn’t a coincidence — since wheatgrass is an abundant source of vitamins and iron, skin is suddenly much firmer and smooth. We’ll drink to that!

So, as devoted members at the church of wheatgrass, we leaped at the opportunity to incorporate the plant into our beauty routine. Enter: Wheatgrass on Ice. No, we’re not talking about a fancy new cocktail — when frozen and applied topically, the combo has a calming effect on skin. Cheeks irritated from a day in the sun? Just rub a cube on the affected area, and let Mother Nature work her magic. The antihistamines not only reduce redness and inflammation, but they also alleviate itchiness. If only other freezer staples such as Cherry Garcia had the same healing benefits…

Let’s begin!

1. Go to your local juice shop/smoothie bar and buy shots of wheatgrass juice. We picked up two 2-ounces of wheatgrass juice shots.

BLEMISH BE GONE!

When you’re sick, you take aspirin to reduce inflammation. When you have an unhappy pimple, you’d do anything to reduce the inflammation. You’re curious to see if it will work on blemishes the same way it works on a fever, so you make a paste and try it out. Eureka!! The pimple has calmed down and is much smaller. Nuff said! Here’s how: (more…)

QUICK TIP: WHEN TO APPLY CONCEALER

Post + Photography by Amy Nadine, Graphic Design by Eunice Chun

I get asked this question often so I’m answering it in a way that everyone benefits! Always apply your foundation all over before applying concealer. Think about it… when you apply foundation first, it covers up a lot of imperfections on its own, cutting down the amount of imperfections you need to go back and spot conceal. If you had applied the concealer first, you would have ended up using a lot more concealer than you would have needed to and done twice the work. Also, if you apply foundation with a brush or sponge, you can move the concealer that you’ve already applied off of the targeted area (such a waste of time and product!).  (more…)
