It’s time to break out the cups, glasses, and tumblers because today we are juicing! It’s no secret that juicing, whether at home or bought elsewhere, is a trend that has caught on…and for good reason. It’s a great way to pack in so many vitamins and nutrients into one portable serving and just like the beauty and skincare products we all love, it’s completely personal. You pick and choose the fruits and veggies that you like into a combo that makes your taste buds happy. It’s also a great way to mask the flavor of certain veggies that you’d…rather not eat, by adding sweet fruits. Case in point, enter the juice combo for today’s post. Beets have a really bad rep, which is unfortunate because they are so good for you. But throw one into a juicer with a few blood oranges, pomegranate seeds and a handful of kale and BOOM. Beets are now delicious.

This delicious four-some make a super tasty juice combo. The blood oranges and pom seeds give it a tart/sweet flavor while the beets and kale bring an earthy taste and gorgeous color. Don’t have a juicer? No worries! Next time you are in your fave juice shop, ask for a custom blend with these beauties. You won’t regret it! Especially when you hear why this juicy juice is so good for you…

BEETS: Beets are one the richest dietary sources of antioxidants which do wonders for skin and hair. They also have components that aid in increasing blood flow which gives you more energy. Who couldn’t use more energy? An energized bod glows from the inside out!

BLOOD ORANGES: Definitely the prettiest citrus of them all! When your food looks this gorgeous…it makes you want to eat it! Containing copious amounts of vitamin C (obvi, its a citrus fruit), this is essential because our bodies don’t naturally produce vitamin C, so eating foods containing it is important.

POMEGRANATE: Another major source of antioxidants! (Are you sensing a theme here?) Pomegranate protects the epidermis and dermis by encouraging skin cell regeneration, aiding in the repair of tissues, and encouraging circulation to skin that is healing. Those little beauties pack a punch!

KALE: This is a super-food that has definitely been on everyone’s radar. Rightfully so! This leafy green is packed with vitamin K which is essential for bone health and skin elasticity. A perfect addition to any juice blend!

Toast can be a dangerous thing. Nine times out of ten it’s used only as a vehicle for butter, sugary jams/jellies….gobs of Nutella at two in the morning (we’ve been there and we know you have too). It’s time to turn your toast into a jet plane packed with beauty fuel cargo! Starting with a whole grain or sprouted grain golden brown piece of toast and adding sliced or mashed avocado is perfect as a quick breakfast, lunch or ideal at snack time. We’ve taken this tasty concept one…actually THREE steps further to show you some beautifying ways to top your avo-toast!

Before we get into these gorgeous toppers, let’s have a chat about the wonder ingredient that is avocado. This beautiful fruit (yes, it’s a fruit) is super rich in dietary vitamins A an E and is most beneficial to the skin. With concentrated levels of vitamin A, its like a natural retinol alternative which increases cell turnover. Studies have shown that avocado consumption can increase the amount of soluble collagen in the skin which translates to better skin repair. A.k.a a dream in reducing sun damage, hyper pigmentation and scarring. Chowing on plenty of avos can also improve signs of a dry scalp and help hydrate skin in general from the inside out.

So, we have our avo-toast doing all kinds of wonders for our skin. Now, what else can we add?

1. RADISH + EDAMAME: This combo is not only delish, but comes complete with a few beauty benefits of their own. Radishes have a high water content and lots of vitamin C which is nourishing for the tissues helping to keep your body hydrated. Hydration = best beauty benefit in the book. Edamame contains isoflavones which many studies have shown aid in the prevention of collagen breakdown…another skin friendly food!

2. EGG + TOMATOES: Tip! Eating your eggs with the yolk in tact {perfect poaching demo here} helps to preserve the nutrients as opposed to scrambling them where the high heat exposure lowers the benefits. Eggs are loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids which can be responsible for strong, healthy nails that won’t split every time you reach for your handbag. Tomatoes are packed with lycopene (what gives them their pigment) which is a powerful antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory that helps protect skin from environmental agents. That’s definitely a dynamic duo.

3. RED PEPPERS + OLIVES: Red peppers, like tomatoes also have lycopene (which we discussed and love) but they also have a unique ratio of vitamin A and C. This combo creates a huge antioxidant capacity which is very beneficial to your skin. Olives are rich in fatty acids and antioxidants that nourish, hydrate and protect the skin. Chief among those is vitamin E which has been shown to protect the skin from UV radiation. Basically a super tasty sunscreen!

So, it’s post-dinner and about that time where the sweet cravings kick into high gear. The Ben & Jerry’s carton is basically knocking down the freezer door trying to make its way into your bowl. Want to go for a dessert that’s just as delicious and packed with healthy, beautifying goodies? Peep our chia seed pudding complete with yummy accessories! Something magical happens when you mix chia seeds with almond milk…you’re are left with a delicious pudding that you can sweeten with honey and vanilla and add healthy toppings. The best part? It is sans sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial ingredients and all the other junk found in the pre-packaged stuff. J-E-L-L-NO. Here’s how you make it!

Curious to know the beauty benefits? Let’s break this down…

1. Chia Seeds: You’ve seen our love for this superfood during snack time, but in this sweet treat they are the star ingredient. Just one of the many benefits of chia seeds, they have a high concentrate of vegetarian omega 3 fatty acids. A diet rich in omega 3s can aid in nourishing hair follicles which will combat brittle ends as well as a dry scalp. Hello lustrous locks! Studies also show that these essential fatty acids can reduce acne and inflammation, boosting the skins natural glow. And we are ALL about that.

2. Coconut: This ingredient is buzzing in the beauty world these days. Coconut oil and coconut water are incorporated into all sorts of beauty regimes. The same benefits occur when munching on some raw coconut! And we think eating this tasty little gem is more fun than topical application. Duh. Raw, unrefined coconut contains antioxidant properties that can help slow the aging process by protecting our bodies from free radicals (one of the main causes of tired/aging skin). Not to mention it’s filled with electrolytes that can keep you nice and hydrated. We all know that hydration is the greatest beauty secret of all!

3. Almond milk: This super delicious dairy alternative is a major source of protein. Protein, being essential to the body’s growth and development, helps with…you guessed it…hair and nail growth! Want longer, stronger hair + nails? A protein rich diet will do just that. Almond milk is also packed with vitamin E. Remember those pesky free radicals we discussed? Well, getting your daily dose of vitamin E helps to fight off premature aging. Pour us another!

4. Pistachios: We are nuts for these. (See what we did there?) Not only are pistachios super yummy and fun to crack open, they are packed with vitamin B6. Among the long list of B6 benefits, hormonal balance is one of them. Do you ever get annoying breakouts around…ahem…that time of the month? That is most likely due to a hormone imbalance. Studies show that women who have high levels of vitamin B6 are less likely to breakout during that time. Crack on to clear skin!

5. Carob chips: Choco-holics, this little number goes out to you! As a healthier alternative to chocolate, carob tastes just as sweet but with some souped-up health benefits to boot! The biomolecules in carob can bind to inactive toxins and inhibit the growth of bacteria. Sounds super science-y but its really simple. It gets rid of the junk! A body free of toxins/bacteria glows from he inside out!

6. Honey: The sweetest of them all! We’ve raved about this ingredient in the past due to its countless beautifying properties. But let’s be honest, it tastes so good that the benefits are just bonus points!

7. Vanilla: Ok, we are talking PURE vanilla extract, or better yet a vanilla bean/pod. None of the imitation stuff if you can help it! Vanilla, in our opinion, is the perfect ingredient to add full flavor to any dessert/treat and a little goes a long way! In keeping with the theme of antioxidant rich foods, vanilla is no different. The antioxidants found in natural vanilla can fight off oxidative stress which can lead to premature aging. Case in point, bring on the antioxidants!

8. Bananas: It’s no secret that bananas are packed with potassium, as we all learned in 6th grade science class! Even though that’s a well known fact, potassium is one of the most common deficiencies. More reason to un-peel and chow! Not to mention, this mineral is a key player in skin hydration. It maintains electrolyte balance and internal fluids keeping skin cells hydrated and skin internally moisturized…something your body butters and facial hydrators won’t do!

Seasons come and go, and as we’re all aware summer is quickly approaching. Spring is the perfect time to get your skin ready for the coming months. My favorite at home remedy for dry skin is simple: coconut butter and a couple drops of olive oil. Coconut butter is an incredible moisturizer and promotes elasticity in skin. Extra virgin olive oil is packed with vitamin E and antioxidants. These two are a mash made in heaven! :) Blend two teaspoons of coconut butter and 10 drops of extra virgin olive oil together in a bowl using the back of a spoon. Apply a thin layer anywhere skin feels dry once or twice a week. I use this on my lips, legs, arms, elbows, and hands. Cover and save the rest in the refrigerator. Due to the coconut craze right now, coconut butter should be pretty easy to find. It’s the perfect summer skin prep!
