HOLD THE SHIMMER!

A lot of us are a little weary of matte products, believing that an all-matte face will make you look lifeless… but I’m here to say you should reconsider every now and then! There’s something ultra modern + chic about a matte eye paired with a matte cheek and a matte lip. I had the pleasure of doing the lovely Anna Paquin’s makeup for this Emmy Magazine story {HBO’s True Blood returns on Sunday; set your dvr’s!} and there isn’t an ounce of shimmer used on her. OSCAR HIGHLIGHT: BLOOMING ROSES

Spring is so close we can smell the floral bouquet in the air! And Oscar night highlighted the season’s pink lip trend beautifully in all shades + skin tones. Because as makeup artists, we know that pink is unquestionably the most universally-wearable + feminine shade. So I simplified things by showing you three skin tones (fair, tan + dark) and how three different shades of pink (pale, petal + bright) look on each. Here’s exactly what their makeup artists (including myself!) used:
