QUICK TIP: MASCARA RESI-DON’T!

Here’s the 411 on mascara residue. To apply mascara properly on the upper lashes, you have to really get in there and wiggle the wand at the roots of the lash line, but that’s hard to do without getting it on the water line. So I’m making a case to go back and clean up the mascara left on the inner rim. Why? Because it seeps into your eyes and irritates them throughout the day, causing redness. Not pretty. EYE FOCUS: HOODED LID

Because so many of our readers have asked for more options for hooded eyelids, we thought you’d love this one fun one for summer! The trick to this slight illusion is to create a “crease line” that is a few millimeters higher than your actual crease, therefore making the lid area appear bigger than it really is. And the best way to do this is with two colors; here I used my favorite blue cream shadow for the lid with my favorite smoky taupe kohl pencil to create the new “raised” crease line. It’s not just a trendy look though, it’s actually a really pretty effect that highlights your top lip, bringing all of the attention there. QUICK TIP: TIGHTEN THE LINE

Maybe I’m a bit neurotic because I’m a makeup artist, but please hear my case! All day long when I’m making eye contact with people, I can’t help but notice that they lined their upper lid, but left a small space of skin peeking through between their lashes {even more so than in the photograph above!}. This bothers me only because we line our upper lids to create an illusion of waking up the eye, but if the line doesn’t go all the way to the actual lash line, the illusion isn’t created; rather it just looks like we merely drew a line across.
