Today we’ve been on the set of Paper Crown‘s holiday look book! Loving these waves on our gorgeous girl, Madison.
My top 3 secrets to getting these piece-y, beachy waves:
~Rub styling paste or water-based pomade into your roots before you start curling. Put a pea-sized amount into the palm of your hands and warm it up. Now get up in there with it! Massage it into your scalp like a head massage. Don’t put it through the middle or ends, only at the root. I like to start with the sides and then flip the head over to do the back. You’ll probably need another dab of product to do the back. I know this trick seems totally gross, but the feel of the product will disappear because it’s water based instead of oil based. This is what gives Madison’s hair that separation and allows me to see which pieces I want to pick up and curl. (Another great thing about water-based products is that they rinse out really easily.)
~Flip your hair back to the upright position and shake your hair until it settles. If you’re confused on how to do that, please click here. From this point on, try not to use a brush on your hair because it will ruin the way the hair locks together. Only comb it with your fingers. Your curls-to-be should now show up. Now you’re ready to pick up the individual locks of hair and start curling.
~I did two different kinds of curl here. I did some that go inside the clamp and some that you wrap around the curling iron. I like doing that to mix up the texture. Most importantly, I didn’t curl up near the root or down toward the ends. I used a 1″ barrell and I started here and stopped there:
Madison’s hair went around the barrell 3 times, but your hair could go more or less than that depending on the length. Once everything is curled, spray with hairspray and dance around. Yep, that’s a professional trick. Ask Lauren, she does it all the time.
And it’s totally obvious that Amy Nadine gave Madison the perfect red lip using her very own advice found here.
